Rockville Responds to the Death of George Floyd

Rockville City Police Chief Victor Brito delivered a presentation to the Mayor and Council on June 22 that detailed the Rockville City Police Department’s continuing commitment to effective, fair, impartial, and unbiased community policing that meets the expectations of the law, city leaders and the community.

Brito’s presentation followed the death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25. That killing sparked weeks of protests across the nation and world, including in Rockville where Brito joined the Mayor and Council and the community.

Rockville police Chief Victor Brito joined the Mayor and Council on June 5, 2020 at a Black Lives Matter peaceful protest organized by students from Richard Montgomery High School.

Brito also joined Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton to record a message to the community.

Brito posted an open letter about Floyd’s death May 28 on the police department’s Facebook page and Newton addressed Floyd’s death in a statement at the beginning of the June 1 Mayor and Council meeting.
