City Invites Residents to Provide Their Ideas for Veirs Mill Road’s Future

Planning Staff to Hold Community Meeting on BRT

Following the Rockville 2040 community listening sessions and citywide forums, Rockville will present a series of ideas for the future of the Twinbrook neighborhoods at a community meeting, 6:30-9 p.m., Thursday, May 18 in the dining room of Glenview Mansion. The focus will be on the Veirs Mill Road corridor.

Montgomery County and the state of Maryland are in the process of designing a bus rapid transit (BRT) system to improve transit service on Veirs Mill Road, connecting the Rockville and Wheaton Metro stations. Montgomery County is preparing a plan for its portion of the Veirs Mill Road corridor, and now is the time for Rockville residents to influence how the city’s part of the corridor and the new transit system could work to benefit the community. Rockville’s new Comprehensive Master Plan will designate the city’s preferred BRT station locations, and city staff have developed a series of land-use concepts to capitalize on the opportunity.

The Comprehensive Master Plan’s goal is to preserve and improve the quality of life in Rockville by guiding development and conservation and ensuring the city’s ability to provide high-quality community facilities.
