City Launches All-New Web Maps and Map Pages

Whether it’s a map of Rockville’s neighborhood associations, planning areas, recycling and refuse pick-up or simply knowing where the working street lights are, you can find it all at one easy-to-use online web address:  http://maps.rockvillemd.gov.

As it moves toward more advanced technology, Rockville’s GIS Division has migrated its diverse portfolio of existing web-based maps to a new application template.

Benefits of the new maps include a consistent interface and user experience, a responsive design that adjusts to the assorted screen sizes of phones and tablets, and an integrated search function that can find not only address locations, but also map-specific features by their attribute values. In all, more than 24 maps were moved to the site and two new maps created. An “About” button on the toolbar of each map brings up a user guide.

The expanded resource on the city’s website hosts a set of featured web maps along with entry to a new, comprehensive map gallery and to the GIS Open Data site. The map gallery is searchable, sortable, and includes the full set of city web maps along with maps from other sources such as Montgomery County Planning.

Other maps include election districts and polling places, walking tours, and planning and zoning information.
