The Mayor and Council continue budget deliberations this month with two work sessions and a public hearing that offers the last opportunity for community members to provide input on the city’s priorities for Fiscal Year 2018.

City Manager Rob DiSpirito presented the Mayor and Council with a FY 2018 budget proposal on Feb. 27. A report on the proposal and video of the full presentation are available at www.rockvillemd.gov/youtube. Search “FY18 budget.”
The Mayor and Council are scheduled to hold work sessions on Mondays, April 3 and 17. A final public hearing is scheduled for April 3. Find the proposed budget and submit comments at www.rockvillemd.gov/budget. The budget, which covers the fiscal year that begins July 1, is scheduled for adoption on Monday, May 1.
The proposed operating budget of $129.4 million is an increase of 2.5 percent over the total operating budget for FY 2017. The general fund budget, which supports the largest portion of the operating budget, is $79.2 million, a 2.6 percent increase. It includes an increase of three full-time police officers, which was achieved by eliminating three vacant positions.
The city’s current real property tax rate of $0.292 per $100 of assessed valuation would remain the same for FY18.
The proposed FY 2018-FY 2022 Capital Improvements Program (CIP), the five-year plan for funding new construction and infrastructure maintenance, includes $19.9 million in new funding, combined with a carryover of $47.2 million to support 47 projects, including eight new projects. Among them are an expansion of the Lincoln Park Community Center parking lot, accessibility improvements at the Rockville Senior Center and stream restoration at Anderson Park.
