Cap off your July Fourth holiday weekend with family and friends as the city’s annual Independence Day celebration returns to Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park in King Farm on Monday, July 4.
Bring blankets, lawn chairs, food and beverages for an evening of live music and fireworks. The party begins at 7 p.m. with music on two stages by The Nighthawks, The Fugitive Brass Quintet and the Rockville Concert Band, followed by a fabulous 20-minute-long fireworks display beginning at 9:15 p.m.
The Mattie J.T. Stepanek Peace Gathering will be held 5-8 p.m. at the 26-acre park, which is hosting the city’s Independence Day celebration for the second consecutive year and offers free, easy access and ample parking (with convenient exits) within a short walk of the fireworks viewing areas (see map).
Parking will be available in lots bordered by Shady Grove Road, Gaither Road, Choke Cherry Road and Piccard Drive, near the park. Several road closures are planned, and will encourage visitors to exit onto main roads such as Route 355 and Shady Grove Road. Rockville police will guide traffic to and from the designated lots before and after the event.
