Ride On extRa Launches on MD 355 in October

Service Will Be Free in October

Ride On will launch a new, limited stop, higher-speed bus service on Route 355 beginning Oct. 2.

The new service, called Ride On extRa, will run every 10 minutes from 5:30-9:30 a.m. and 3:30-7:30 p.m., with 12 stops between the Medical Center Metro station in Bethesda and the Lakeforest Transit Center in Gaithersburg. New bus shelters and bus stop flag signs will identify Ride On extRa bus stops.

To encourage people to try it, the service will be free in October. Starting in November, commuters can ride for a regular Ride On fare, via a SmarTrip card, pass or cash.

Ride On extRa buses will operate 30-40 percent quicker than local buses due to the limited stops and the use of Transit Signal Priority, which detects buses as they approach select intersections and holds signals green to allow buses to pass through. The buses will have Wi-Fi and USB charging outlets.

Stops serving Rockville will include the Shady Grove Metro station, Montgomery College, the Rockville Metro station, Edmonston Drive and Halpine Road.
