Speaker Series to Show Documentary on Five African-American Churches

The Glenview Mansion and Peerless Rockville Speaker Series will hold a free screening of “Community Cornerstones: African American Communities in Montgomery County, Maryland,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8.

Between the Civil War and the civil rights movement, 40 African-American churches were built in Montgomery County. In these cornerstones of their communities, generations of black families created their own spiritual, social and educational opportunities.

Produced by Heritage Montgomery, the 60-minute documentary features five of these historic church communities. The event is free to attend. Glenview Mansion is located at 603 Edmonston Drive.
