As Pretty as a Pitcher

Walter Johnson statue

Rockville’s always-busy parks crews have been hard at work across the city, but also in Dogwood Park, at 800 Monroe St., where they recently restored the park’s centerpiece statue of Walter “Big Train” Johnson, one of the most accomplished baseball pitchers of all time.

The statue, created by Nickelsville, Virginia-based artist Kris Connors, was installed in the park in 2020. Johnson is buried at the Rockville Cemetery on Baltimore Road with his wife, Hazel Lee Johnson.

Crews also continued field renovations at Dogwood.
