Bring the Family to Meet Rockville Police Officers

What: RCPD Open House
When: Saturday, Sept. 29, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: 2 W. Montgomery Ave.

Two ways to get to know the city’s police force … The Rockville City Police Department, in coming weeks, offers a police station open house on Sept. 29 and National Coffee with a Cop Day on Oct. 3.

The Rockville City Police Department is rolling out the welcome mat this fall and offering the community two opportunities to get to know the men and women who protect and serve Rockville.

New police Chief Victor Brito will welcome the community to an open house from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, featuring vehicle and equipment displays, a K-9 demonstration, a moon bounce, face painting, a DJ, pumpkin decorating, food, information booths, a visit by McGruff the Crime Dog, and the opportunity to meet city police officers. Officers will offer guided tours of the RCPD’s home in the old post office building at 2 W. Montgomery Ave. Free parking will be available in the parking garage at 77 S. Washington St., adjacent to the police station, and just two blocks away at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave.

Officers will also join community members for National Coffee with a Cop Day from 8-9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Krispy Kreme in the Fallsgrove Village Center, 14919 Shady Grove Road. Officers will be on hand for informal one-on-one chats with community members – no formal speeches, no agendas and no distractions. Learn more about Coffee with a Cop at coffeewithacop.com.

The RCPD is committed to community policing. In July, the RCPD successfully completed an interim, web-based assessment of its accreditation, under a new four-part process by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. An independent reviewer examined 25 percent of the department’s accreditation standards and found full compliance with no issues or concerns. The RCPD received a full, four-year accreditation from CALEA in 2016.
