Help City Police Stop the Noise

Are You Exhausted by Loud Vehicles?

Loud, noisy vehicles are a nuisance. The Rockville City Police Department is asking everyone to help stop noise from car meetups, racing and loud exhausts. It’s not only disruptive to neighborhoods, it’s also dangerous and illegal.

RCPD has issued more than 250 warnings, citations or equipment repair orders since September and has participated in several multi-agency efforts over the past year to address aggressive, distracted and impaired driving in Montgomery County.

Recent joint operations targeted loud exhaust, aggressive driving and excessive speeding, and involved Maryland State Police, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, and officers from Montgomery County, Rockville and Gaithersburg.

One such operation, on the evening of April 20, along MD 355 from Professional Drive in Gaithersburg to Edmonston Drive in Rockville, resulted in 68 citations, 57 warnings, 49 equipment repair orders and two criminal arrests (one for a controlled dangerous substance and one for a warrant). A similar operation along MD 355 on June 10, resulted in 42 citations, 101 warnings and 41 equipment repair orders.

Similar operations are planned throughout the summer. Other initiatives have sought to address distracted and impaired driving.

Police encourage community members to report vehicle noise at the time it is occurring, whenever possible.
Call the RCPD non-emergency line at 240-314-8900 if the situation is occurring in the city.

For situations seen or heard on I-270, call the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack at 301-424-2101.

If you are unsure about jurisdiction, call the Montgomery County Police Department non-emergency line at 301-279-8000 and they will route the call to the proper department.
