Metro Seeks Feedback on Red Line Service Alternatives

Metro is considering two alternatives that would increase rail service at the Shady Grove, Rockville, Twinbrook and White Flint stations during rush hour and limit the number of trains that turn back at Grosvenor-Strathmore.

The agency is seeking input from riders, via a survey, on how those changes would affect their commute. Feedback from the survey will be provided to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Board of Directors in July. If any adjustments are approved, they will take place in December.

Currently during rush hour, Red Line trains arrive every eight minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont. Additional service operates between Grosvenor and Silver Spring, with trains arriving every four minutes between those stations.

The alternatives are:

  • A: Full elimination of the Grosvenor turn-back, which would extend service to Shady Grove for all trains that currently turn back at Grosvenor. Trains would arrive every four minutes (15 trains per hour).
  • B: Partial elimination of the Grosvenor turn-back, which would extend service to Shady Grove for approximately half of the trains that currently turn back at Grosvenor. Trains would arrive on average every five minutes (12 trains per hour).
  • C: No change. Trains would continue to arrive every eight minutes (7.5 trains per hour).

Find the survey at metroredline.questionpro.com. The deadline for submission is before 5 p.m. Monday, May 21.
