Diversity in the City

Human Rights

Rockville’s Human Rights Program works to ensure equal treatment, free of discrimination, for people who live in, work in or visit the city. The city’s Human Rights Commission is charged with minimizing the effects of conflict and promoting appreciation of diversity within Rockville. Residents or visitors who feel that they have experienced discrimination based on age, ancestry, creed, color, disability, marital status, national origin, race, sexual orientation, gender or presence of children may file a complaint through the Human Rights Office. Americans with Disabilities Act

The city is committed to providing access to city programs and services through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Community members in need of a modification to assist them in attending a city program or accessing a city facility or service should fill out the online ADA Request for Modification Form at www.rockvillemd.gov/ada or contact Janet Kelly, ADA coordinator, at 240-314-8108, relay 711, TTY 240-314-8137 or [email protected].

Translation Services

A Language Line allows community members to receive foreign language translation when they call the city’s main number at 240-314-5000. Hearing- or speech-impaired callers to the city can use relay 711 or TTY 240-314-8137. The city uses a translation service to translate some documents and materials. The city’s website and RockvilleReports.com both offer Google Translate options. Using the “Select Language” bar on the right side of each webpage, users can select from 20 different languages on RockvilleReports.com and from more than 100 languages on www.rockvillemd.gov.

Asian Pacific American Task Force

The Asian Pacific American Task Force fosters communication between the Asian-American community and the city government. The task force also provides resources, educates the general public about the contributions of Asian-Americans and engages the Asian-American community (businesses and residents) in city-sponsored activities. LGBT Liaison

The city’s LGBT liaison acts as a point of contact for the LGBT community, providing information, referral services, coordination, advice and general assistance. Rockville hosts special events throughout the year that bring our diverse community together, including family-friendly festivals, ceremonies honoring military veterans and celebrations of the many cultures that make up our city.
