Rockville Cancels Independence Day Celebration

Rockville’s Independence Day Celebration, scheduled for Saturday, July 4 at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park in King Farm, has been canceled due to public health concerns arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mayor and Council made the decision at their meeting on May 11.

Rockville’s event draws nearly 30,000 people and as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to keep the community safe and slow the spread of COVID-19, staff recommended cancelling the event.

Staff has monitored the status of other Independence Day celebrations. To date, the Bethany Beach, Delaware; Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; and Howard County celebrations and fireworks are cancelled. Other jurisdictions have not made final decisions.
