Rockville Town Square Ice Rink is Under Construction

Restrictions Will Be in Place for Skaters’ Health and Safety

The Rockville Town Square ice rink has begun assembly and is expected to be open in the next two or three weeks.

Under new restrictions adopted by Montgomery County on Tuesday, Nov. 10, outdoor ice rinks are permitted to open with size restrictions following approval from the county.

Federal Realty Investment Trust has received county approval to operate the rink. Skaters will be required to wear masks and the number of skaters allowed on the ice will be restricted. With those conditions in place, the City of Rockville will permit the rink to open.

At 7,200 square feet and 120 feet long, the is the largest outdoor rink in Montgomery County. An annual attraction in winter for almost a decade, it features an underlay of colorful abstract artwork by local artist Emily Eisinger, titled “A Rendered Edge.”

The ice rink at Rockville Town Square is now under construction for the 2020-21 season.
