Rockville’s Festing in Place Presents Plenty of Ways to Participate

City is Soliciting Photos of Community Celebrating Hometown Holidays at Home

The City of Rockville will show its hometown pride beginning next week, despite the cancellation of the Hometown Holidays Music Fest and Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade, with Festing in Place events that offer opportunities for the community to participate safely in their homes and neighborhoods.

The city wants to carry on the tradition of the annual music fest and Memorial Day commemoration and is asking community members to join in and email photos to [email protected] or post photos and videos on Facebook labeled with the #HTHFestingInPlace hashtag. Photos and videos can be taken any time through Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, and will be featured on the City of Rockville Hometown Holidays Music Fest page on Facebook and at www.rockvillemd.gov/HTH. Here’s how to participate:

Walk or run a mile around your neighborhood or local park while listening to a curated Hometown Holidays Festing in Place playlist on Spotify, featuring bands from past festivals. Don’t have Spotify? Find the playlist on the City of Rockville Hometown Holidays Music Fest page on Facebook or at www.rockvillehometownholidays.com/music-mile, where you can also find a printable Hometown Music Mile race bib for your walk or run.

Then, show you and your family participating. Take a photo or video and post it to Facebook using #HTHFestingInPlace or email it to [email protected].

Parade in place. Rockville’s commemoration of Memorial Day spans 75 years. Don’t sit this year out! Keep the community spirit alive by creating a parade from your home, yard or driveway.Decorate your home, including balconies and windows in multifamily housing; bicycles; wagons; sidewalk; or mailboxes; featuring patriotic red, white and blue for an at-home Memorial Day Parade.

Then, show us your community spirit. Take a photo or video and post it to Facebook using #HTHFestingInPlace or email it to [email protected].

Get a Taste of Rockville. Find a participating Rockville-area restaurant or grocer at www.rockvillehometownholidays.com/taste-of-rockville and support local businesses by ordering carryout, curbside pickup and delivery. (You can even snap and share a photo of yourself enjoying your food – but please, chew with your mouth closed.) Organized by the Rockville Chamber of Commerce and Community Reach of Montgomery County.

Connect for concerts. Celebrate the Hometown Holidays Music Fest from the comfort of home with performances from favorite HTH performers of years past, including Capital Effect, Ted Garber and The Nighthawks, posted to the City of Rockville Hometown Holidays Music Fest page on Facebook and to www.rockvillehometownholidays.com/entertainment, beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 23.

Come together to commemorate. Join Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton on the City of Rockville Hometown Holidays Music Fest page on Facebook and at www.rockvillehometownholidays.com/memorial-day at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25 for a Memorial Day message and a moment of silence in honor of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
