Skate Park to be Site of Latest Public Art Project

An artist is being sought to create a work of art to adorn the new Rockville Skate Park at 355 Martins Lane.

“The public artwork should seek to engage its audience and welcome visitors in a fun and unforgettable manner,” the call for artists states.

The new 15,000-square-foot concrete skate park features a kidney bowl, manual pads, quarter pipes, radius wedge, rainbow grind rail, grind ledge, slappy curb and pole. The skate park is designed to be fun for all riders, no matter the age, style, skill level or wheel type.

The budget for the artwork will be $14,500, which covers design work, engineering, fabrication, delivery, site preparation, lighting, installation of the work at the site, as well as other associated expenses.

The final selection of artist and artwork will be made by the Mayor and Council.
