Community Service for Clean Streams

Volunteers cleaned the stream at Twinbrook Community Park for Montgomery County’s Community Service Day on Oct. 22, 2016.

Rockville is seeking volunteers to help keep city streams trash-free with two stream cleanups in October.

On Saturday, Oct. 14, the Environment Commission will host a cleanup from 10:30 a.m.-noon at Maryvale Park, 812 First St. Environment Commission members will be at the park’s gazebo to greet participants.

Note that First Street adjacent to Maryvale Park is closed due to construction. Participants should park along other neighborhood streets and enter Maryvale Park using the paths on Crabb or Taylor avenues.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, volunteers will clean up the stream at Twinbrook Community Park from 9:30-11 a.m. City staff will greet volunteers at Twinbrook Community Recreation Center, 12920 Twinbrook Parkway. The cleanup is part of Montgomery County’s Community Service Week.

Gloves and bags will be provided to participants at both cleanups. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes. Student Service Learning hours are available for student volunteers. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. For more information and to register, email [email protected] or call 240-314-8877.

Public cleanups are scheduled throughout the year, so check the calendar often.
