Free, Reconditioned Bikes for TERRIFIC Kids

Awardees will receive a reconditioned bike and new helmet.

Rockville has outstanding kids, and every T-E-R-R-I-F-I-C kid needs a bike. How do you prove you’re TERRIFIC? Show us you’re Trustworthy, Earnest, Respectful, Responsible, Involved, Fair, Industrious and Caring!

The TERRIFIC challenge gives free bikes to Rockville residents in grades 1-5 who fulfill six good deeds, such as volunteering with a charity, picking up litter in a public place or helping someone who is sick or elderly.

Due to the limited number of bicycles, participants must preregister for the free program by Friday, Feb. 18. Selected participants will be emailed information by Tuesday, March 1 on how to track and submit their good deeds.

To be eligible, students must attend a school within Rockville’s city limits and have a sponsor, e.g., a parent, grandparent, teacher, coach or guardian, to monitor their progress. Successful participants receive a certificate for taking part in the program and will be recognized for their TERRIFIC work at a Mayor and Council meeting on Monday, May 2.

Awardees will receive their reconditioned bike and new helmet during a special event Saturday, May 21, hosted by Rockville Bike Hub. Participants will receive a brief orientation on safety.

For questions or more information, call 240-314-8620. Preregistration is required to be eligible to participate in the TERRIFIC Bike Award program. Register for course #21794 at www.rockvillemd.gov/registration.

Do you or someone you know have a bike to donate? Email [email protected] or visit www.rockvillebikehub.org for more information.
