With a smile that welcomes visitors to City Hall and a friendly voice directing calls on the city’s main telephone line, Nadege Dogbo started in July as an administrative assistant and switchboard operator. But she’s by no means new to the City of Rockville. We asked her a few questions to get to know her better and learn more about her new role.
When did you join the City of Rockville?
I joined the city in 2016 while I was a senior in high school, and I have been here ever since.
You once worked at the front counter of the city’s Inspection Services Division. Tell us more.
Working for Inspection Services was a really great experience. I had the pleasure of learning the new permitting system. Just as we were learning the system, the customers were learning along with us. I enjoyed working on different projects and helping callers troubleshoot permitting issues.
You have a lot of experience in customer service. What did you do before joining the city?
Most of my experience with customer service was at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center, where I worked at the front desk, at the pool as a lifeguard and in the pool as an instructor. With the pandemic, we had to adapt to changes, which helped me learn how to engage with the public in a new way. Before joining the city, I worked at Harris Teeter as a customer service associate for two years and, for three years, as a caregiver at Homecrest Assisted Living in Silver Spring, where I cared for 15 residents.
Tell us about your new role.
I assist visitors or callers by researching information so that they can get their concerns addressed and direct callers to the right departments within Rockville or county government. I also support the City Manager’s Office as needed. The most important part of my job is to welcome everyone.
