Code Violations in Your Neighborhood? Here’s What to Do

The city’s Community Enhancement and Code Enforcement Division identifies code violations and educates the community on property maintenance codes with the goals of improving quality of life and preserving property values in city neighborhoods.

Code inspectors respond to reports of exterior maintenance issues; grass and weeds over 10 inches high; chipped and peeling paint; defective sheds, garages and fences; missing address numbers; missing or defective smoke detectors; abandoned or junk vehicles; parking on grass; overcrowding and prohibited habitation; trash accumulation; pest or rodent infestation; and other unsanitary conditions.

Community members may report code enforcement concerns by:

  • Calling the division’s main number at 240-314-8330. A case will be generated, and a codes inspector will respond.
  • Reporting a concern online. Visit www.rockvillemd.gov/codeenforcement and select “Report Code Enforcement Violations in Rockville.”
  • Finding a map of the city’s six inspection zones, and the codes inspectors assigned to each, at www.rockvillemd.gov/DocumentCenter/View/95. Use the contact information listed to report a concern directly to the appropriate inspector.
