The Rockville Senior Center presents English for Speakers of Other Languages classes for seniors age 60 and older this fall.
Classes include reading, speaking, listening and pronunciation for seniors whose first language is not English, and are offered as follows:
- English 1 – Beginner, from 10 a.m.-noon Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 11-Nov. 15.
- English 2 – High Beginner, from 10 a.m.-noon Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 12-Nov. 16.
- English 3 – Intermediate, from 10 a.m.-noon Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 12-Nov. 16.
- English 4 – Advanced, from 10 a.m.-noon Mondays and Wednesday, Sept. 11-Nov. 15.
New students must meet with program coordinator Amoke Alakoye before registering, so that their skill level can be assessed. They may choose one of the following assessment times: Between 10 a.m. and noon Monday, Aug. 28; Tuesday, Aug. 29; Wednesday, Sept. 6; or Thursday, Sept. 7; or between 9:30 a.m. and noon on Sept. 11, Sept. 12 or Sept. 13.

Additional English conversation classes will give beginner, intermediate and advanced students practice speaking more confidently about everyday topics, on Tuesdays, Sept. 12-Nov. 14. Beginner students must also register for one of the English classes listed above.
