Here Comes the Sun (and Energy Savings)

Building on the success of the previous two years, the Rockville Environment Commission is excited to partner with nonprofit Solar United Neighbors (formerly MD SUN) on the launch of a third solar co-op.

A free information session at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave., will discuss the basics of solar technology, economics and incentives, and the solar co-op process.

Participation in solar co-ops helped 63 Rockville homeowners in 2015, and 88 homeowners in 2016, go solar. Homeowners who join the co-op find going solar easier.

Participants receive technical assistance and guidance throughout the process so they can feel confident about their investment.

While each participant signs an independent contract with the installer for their own system, banding together to negotiate a volume discount reduces the total cost of installation. The co-op may offer free solar educational workshops, free preliminary site assessments to determine whether a home is suitable for solar, competitively selected contractors with set prices and a limited time offer to get the best deal on solar.
