Building on the success of the previous two years, the Rockville Environment Commission is again partnering with nonprofit Solar United Neighbors (formerly MD SUN) on a third solar co-op.
Rockville’s participation in solar co-ops helped 63 homeowners in 2015, and 88 homeowners in 2016, go solar. Homeowners who join the Montgomery County Solar Co-op find going solar easier. Participants receive technical assistance and guidance throughout the process so that they can feel confident about their investment.
While each participant signs an independent contract with the installer for their own system, they band together to negotiate a volume discount and reduce the total cost of installation. The co-op may offer free solar educational workshops, free preliminary site assessments to determine whether a home is suitable for solar, competitively selected contractors with set prices and a limited-time offer to get the best deal on solar.
Information session are scheduled across the county in the coming weeks. Learn more at www.rockvillemd.gov/solarhomes.
