Glenview Mansion’s Wine and Foreign Film series continues in February and March for cinephiles age 21 and older. The films are shown café-style in the mansion’s conservatory. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and each movie begins promptly at 7:15 p.m. The event is free, with wine on sale at $3 per glass. No tickets or reservations are required.
Feb. 13: “Young Goethe in Love.” (German with English subtitles.) Germany 1772. Young, tumultuous Johann Goethe fails his law exams and is sent to a sleepy provincial court to mend his ways. Lotte enters his life and nothing is the same. The young lovers are unaware that her father has already promised Lotte’s hand to another man.
“Romance, humor and drama follow the characters and their dilemmas,” Variety said of the movie.
March 13: “Fifi Howls from Happiness.” (Farsi with English subtitles.) A documentary exploring the work and life of provocative artist, Bahman Mohassess, the so-called “Persian Picasso,” whose acclaimed paintings and sculptures dominated pre-revolutionary Iran.
“Addictively fascinating and exceptionally clever,” according to “Village Voice.”
