Rockville’s Recreation and Parks Department will bring home two prestigious accolades from this year’s Maryland Recreation and Parks Association annual awards. The MRPA’s “Celebration of Excellence” was held March 1 in Baltimore.
MRPA recognized the Rockville Civic Ballet as an organization within the state “that has contributed outstanding service within the past two years to the parks, recreation and leisure profession.” Founded in 1975, the civic ballet has 100 dancers of all ages and abilities from numerous ethnic backgrounds, and strives to be affordable to everyone in the community.
The association also awarded Best Special Event Publication to Rockville’s annual Hometown Holidays Music Festival. “The [entry’s] vibrant colors and musical elements help to convey an effective message about the performers and all of the fun activities at the three-day festival,” MRPA stated.
