New Gavel Makes Debut

A piece of Rockville history will soon be on display in City Hall — a new gavel made from a beam taken from the King Farm farmstead. The gavel is, “A beautiful piece of work continuing the tradition in Rockville of preserving what we can and making things go forward into the next generation,” Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton said at the Jan. 22 Mayor and Council meeting, where the gavel was first used. The gavel was carved by Lawrence A. Taylor Jr., of Taylor Turnings, Annapolis. To see Rockville 11’s report on the new gavel, visit www.youtube.com/cityofrockville and search for “gavel.”
