Green Your Backyard and Save Green

If landscaping is on your to-do list this fall, the City of Rockville is offering a free information session on ways to reduce runoff and replace weedy areas of your yard, from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at Twinbrook Community Recreation Center, 12920 Twinbrook Parkway.

The city’s RainScapes Rewards Program offers single-family homeowners and nonprofits, including religious institutions, private schools and homeowners associations, up to $4,800 in rebates for landscaping that is designed to green your backyard and reduce pollution.

The program offers rebates for planting trees and conservation landscaping, installing rain barrels, or removing pavement – actions that can reduce flooding, decrease pollution in local streams, and attract birds and butterflies. The Green Your Backyard information session will also highlight how to create a wildlife habitat in your yard by using native plants, eliminating pesticides and providing animals with food, water, cover and places to raise young.
