RedGate Golf Course to Close

The city has commissioned the National Golf Foundation to assess the course. A report based on that study, anticipated to be delivered to the Mayor and Council by the end of January, will initiate a discussion by the Mayor and Council on RedGate’s future.

The 18-hole, city-owned RedGate Golf Course will close Monday, Dec. 31, following an announcement by operator Billy Casper Golf that it will end its leasing relationship with the City of Rockville at the end of the calendar year.

Billy Casper Golf has leased and managed RedGate, at 14500 Avery Road, since January 2012. The course was designed and built in 1974 by course architect Therman Donovan.

The facility is expected to remain closed until the Mayor and Council can review their options and determine next steps.
