Representatives from the National Golf Foundation will present a report on RedGate Golf Course at the Monday, Feb. 25 meeting of the Mayor and Council.
The 18-hole, city-owned RedGate Golf Course closed Dec. 31, following an announcement by operator Billy Casper Golf that it would end its leasing relationship with the City of Rockville by the end of the calendar year. The NGF report will initiate a discussion by the Mayor and Council on RedGate’s future.
The city requested from NGF a strategic review of the golf course, clubhouse and driving range operation, an evaluation of the long-term potential of the facility, and recommendations for how to enhance economic performance. The report will include an analysis of the physical and economic condition of the facility, and the market environment in which it operates.
Billy Casper Golf had leased and managed RedGate, at 14500 Avery Road, since signing on in 2011. The facility is expected to remain closed until the Mayor and Council can review their options and determine next steps.
