The Rockville Recreation and Parks Foundation has awarded six grants worth almost $10,000 to help the Recreation and Parks Department provide improved services to the community.
Grants were awarded to enroll teams from the city’s Latino Youth Development Soccer Program in local leagues, purchase pickleball equipment for the city’s expanding programs, provide drawstring backpacks for campers so they can stay organized over the summer, and expand garden projects at Twinbrook and Lincoln Park community centers.
Funds were also provided to purchase GoPro video equipment for the teens program and a snow-plow attachment for smaller park paths and sidewalks.
The foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that awards grants twice a year to help improve recreation activities and facilities in the city. Most funds are raised through the foundation’s annual golf classic, which this year will be held 8 a.m. Friday, May 3 at Hampshire Greens Golf Course, 616 Firestone Drive, Silver Spring.
