The Boards and Commissions Task Force began meeting in March 2018 and has performed an extensive examination of Rockville’s volunteer boards, commissions, committees and task forces. The task force’s mission is to identify gaps or overlaps between boards and commissions, and recommend continuing, repurposing, merging, eliminating or adding boards or commissions. They are also reviewing membership requirements and determining whether eligibility requirements or expertise should be required for appointment.
“Rockville’s boards and commissions and other [volunteer organizations] are amazing,” the task force stated in a letter on its work sent to the Mayor and Council. “The quality and quantity of volunteerism are staggering. It is a great strength of our city.” A report on the task force’s findings is anticipated in the near future.
