The Planning Commission approved an update to the Bikeway Master Plan, Sept. 28, recommending it be adopted by the Mayor and Council as part of the city’s Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP).
The Mayor and Council will receive a presentation on the draft on Monday, Nov. 21 and will hold a public hearing on the draft plan on Monday, Dec. 12. The public comment period is expected to remain open until at least Friday, Dec. 30.
Read the draft plan and submit testimony and comments at www.rockvillemd.gov/bikewaymasterplan.
The Bikeway Master Plan was last updated in 2004 and is currently part of the CMP. Numerous recommendations from the update have been implemented since 2004, including completion of the Carl Henn Millennium Trail. The new draft plan aims to build on that success and establish a recreational transportation network to make Rockville more inviting for bicycles and other types of transportation, including commuting and shopping.
The new plan will act as a starting point to develop specific bicycle-related capital projects to expand the existing bicycle network, improve safety and expand connections to all parts of the city.
