Rockville 2040 Themes to Go to Planning Commission

rock2040#2Rockville planning staff recently completed the initial public outreach phase of the Rockville 2040 program to update the city’s Comprehensive Master Plan.

A series of issues emerged from last year’s listening sessions and citywide forums, and in coming months city staff will present those issues, and ways of addressing them, to the Planning Commission. Those issues included:

  • More housing options, including additional density near transit stations.
  • Greater connectivity, particularly for walking and biking.
  • “More to do” — more recreational opportunities — both public and commercial.
  • Better leveraging of Montgomery College’s presence in the city.

More than 500 people were heard from at listening sessions held throughout the city last summer, fall and winter. This past spring, four citywide forums were held at VisArts in Town Center to develop draft policies and goals for key elements of the plan, including environment, land use, transportation, community facilities, water resources, housing, historic preservation and economic development.

More than 100 people, as well as members of the Mayor and Council and the Planning Commission, took part in generating and discussing more than 500 ideas. This input will guide how the final plan is drafted.

Results of the listening sessions and forums, and other information on the plan, can be found at
