Solar Co-op: Affordable Options for Rooftop Panels or Vehicle Chargers

If you are interested in rooftop solar, or are looking to install an electric vehicle charger, then this is the opportunity for you.

Registration is now open for the Capital Area Solar Co-op. Rockville is joining Arlington, Frederick and Montgomery counties, and Bowie, Falls Church, Frederick, Gaithersburg, Poolesville, Takoma Park and Washington D.C. to promote residential solar installations.

Rockville will host free virtual information sessions on Thursday, May 13 and Thursday, July 15. Other sessions are available. You can register online for the information sessions and learn more about joining the co-op, which is free and does not commit you to purchase solar panels or EV chargers. Information sessions will discuss the benefits of solar for homes and small businesses, including technology, economics, and financing. Attendees will learn about the process, including whether their home is suitable for solar.

By working with a local nonprofit and community partners, co-op members receive guidance throughout the process and leverage group buying power to get a discount on installations. Each member signs an individual contract with the chosen installer, but all participants get the group discount. Co-op members will have an opportunity to take advantage of federal tax credits before they phase out. The co-op can include leasing or other financing options.
