Rockville likes bikes. And so does the Rockville City Police Department.
The city is a Bronze level Bicycle Friendly Community as certified by the League of American Bicyclists, which recognizes the city’s commitment to bicycling as a sustainable, healthy and equitable mode of transportation and recreation.
In its commitment to community policing, the RCPD joins community members on bicycles, especially during the summer months, when bicycle-certified officers can be seen patrolling Rockville Town Center, city parks and trails and special events by bike. Bicycles provide great exercise for the officers and an alternative form of community policing that gives officers visibility in the community as they patrol and respond to calls for assistance.
Rockville’s bicycle-certified officers are: Cpl. Jon Lally, Cpl. Phil Lew, Cpl. Jamal Lewis, Cpl. Heath Marshall, Cpl. Karl Plitt and Cpl. Chris Sadelson. Additional RCPD officers will be attending a three-day training in the coming weeks to become bicycle certified.
