The Mayor and Council are scheduled to discuss the City of Rockville’s proposed comprehensive plan update at a work session during their virtual meeting on Tuesday, June 1. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.
Rockville’s comprehensive plan sets a vision and goals for the future of the city, with practical policies and actions to achieve those goals.
The work session will focus on the municipal growth and historic preservation elements, and on planning areas for:
- PA 5: Woodley Gardens and College Gardens.
- PA 7: Montgomery College area.
- PA 2: East Rockville.
- PA 6: Lincoln Park.
At their Monday, June 7 meeting, the Mayor and Council will discuss and review testimony regarding:
- PA 1: Town Center.
- PA 3: Hungerford, New Mark Commons, Lynfield.

Transportation and housing elements will be the subject of the Mayor and Council’s Thursday, June 10 special meeting. Topics for future sessions will be announced soon.
The draft comprehensive plan, which is the Planning Commission’s recommendation to the Mayor and Council, is based on feedback gathered throughout the Rockville 2040 process, which included numerous listening sessions, citywide forums, open houses and other meetings, as well as analyses of trends.
A second public hearing on the comprehensive plan draft will be held by the Mayor and Council on Monday, June 14. The deadline for submitting written testimony is Friday, June 18.
If adopted by the Mayor and Council, as anticipated in July, the plan will replace the city’s previous 2002 comprehensive plan and many of its subsequent amendments.
