The Rockville Recreation and Parks Foundation has recognized Rockville resident Robert Daniels and the Rockville Art League with Community Achievement Awards, an annual program that thanks individuals and organizations for their contributions to Rockville’s Recreation and Parks programs and facilities.
The awards ceremony coincides with July’s National Recreation and Parks month. The foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to assist financially with efforts to improve recreation activities and facilities in Rockville.
Robert Daniels has dedicated his time and talents to making Mary Trumbo Park a special place by planting and maintaining the sundial bed. He has provided hundreds of plants and countless hours of his own time to ensure the sundial bed and park looks its best. Mary Trumbo Park is located at Park Road and North Grandin Avenue.
Since 1958, the Rockville Art League has been a developer and promoter of fine arts in the Rockville community, celebrating artists and their accomplishments. In the 1950s, its efforts established the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery. The league has curated numerous exhibits at the Glenview gallery, Thomas Farm Community Center, City Hall, and other city facilities.
Members have willingly volunteered their knowledge, skills and tools to assist with calls for artists for the city’s Arts in Public Places program. Over the past year, RAL successfully ventured into virtual exhibits to continue their support of art and artists while physical galleries were closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
