The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate. But leave the fireworks to the professionals.
The city reminds residents that the private use and possession of fireworks, including sparklers, is illegal in Montgomery County and carries a fine up to $1,000 and/or six months in jail. Public fireworks displays require proper permits and insurance.
The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service asks adults to teach children that fireworks are not toys and to explain their dangers.
Fireworks were involved with an estimated 11,500 injuries treated in emergency rooms in the United States in 2021, according to a study by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Of those, 8,500 — nearly two-thirds of the 2021 total, occurred from June 18-July 18.
