City Invites Public Comment on Funding Priorities at Aug. 1 Hearing
Rockville nonprofits and government agencies can apply to receive a portion of the $230,000 that Rockville is projected to receive through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
The program provides federal grants for housing and community development projects that benefit low- and moderate-income households or neighborhoods. Rockville receives CDBG funds through Montgomery County.
Grant applications are due by Thursday, Sept. 15. Projects should meet the guidelines outlined in Rockville’s funding announcement, which is available with the application form and instructions at www.rockvillemd.gov/cdbgapplication.
Applications will be reviewed and prioritized by city staff and forwarded, with recommendations, to the Mayor and Council for review and approval this fall.
Residents and organizations may voice their opinions on community needs and CDBG funding priorities at a public hearing during the Mayor and Council meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1.
Anyone wishing to speak at the hearing should register with the City Clerk’s Office by calling 240-314-8280 between 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays. Testimony will be limited to three minutes for an individual and five minutes for a representative of an association or organization. The public comment period will remain open for approximately two weeks to accept written testimony for those not able to attend the hearing.
Additional information will be available in the Mayor and Council’s Aug. 1 agenda item, which will be posted online by Thursday, July 28 at www.rockvillemd.gov/AgendaCenter.
In recent years, CDBG funding grants provided:
- Rehabilitation funds for public housing units in the city.
- Support for Rockville’s Single-Family Rehabilitation Program, which provides forgivable loans to low- and moderate-income residents to make critical repairs to their homes.
- Renovation of group homes for individuals with severe mental illness and of a residence for formerly homeless men.
