April is Flood Awareness Month

Flooding is the most common natural disaster. Anywhere it can rain, it can flood. It’s important to take steps to prepare for flooding before it happens.

Rockville provides a variety of resources to help you be flood smart. Visit www.rockvillemd.gov/flooding to:

  • Get the guide. “Go With the Flow: A Homeowner’s Guide to Responsible Stormwater Solutions” is available in English, Spanish and simplified Chinese. It provides steps for identifying the source and severity of flooding, finding potential solutions, and consulting a contractor to confirm and execute the right solution for your property. It also explains how to apply for rebates to offset flood mitigation project costs.
  • Apply for funds from the Flood Mitigation Assistance Program. Rockville offers matching reimbursement funds of up to $5,000 to residents and property owners who have made flood protection improvements to their properties.
  • Be prepared for future flooding. Check out tips and resources for knowing your flood risk, reducing your risk, considering flood insurance and preparing for future flood events.
  • Report storm flood damage. Rockville residents or property owners who have experienced flood damage associated with severe weather can help the city understand the impact of intense storms on our community by taking the Storm Flood Damage Survey.
