A musical interpretation of a classic John Waters movie, a summer evening of pops and Lewis Carroll’s most famous tale becomes ballet during July.

“Hairspray,” presented by Rockville Musical Theatre. 8 p.m. July 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20; 2 p.m. July 14 and 21 at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, 603 Edmonston Drive.

In this performance based on the John Waters movie, it’s 1962 in Baltimore, and Tracy Turnblad has only one desire — to dance on the “Corny Collins Show.” When her dreams come true, she is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network — all without denting her do. Music by Marc Shaiman; lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman; book by Thomas Meehan and Mark O’Donnell. Directed by TJ Lukacsina, with musical direction by Marci Shegogue and choreography by Rikki Lacewell.
Tickets cost $25; $23 for seniors (62 and older) and students.

“Summer Evening of Pops!” presented by the Rockville Concert Band. 7 p.m. Sunday, July 7, Rockville Town Square.

Under the direction of John Saint Amour, the Rockville Concert Band will perform a free jazz, Broadway and patriotic spectacular. Bring a lawn chair.

“Alice in Wonderland,” presented by the Rockville Civic Ballet. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27 and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28 at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, 603 Edmonston Drive.

Under the direction of Eleanor Simpson, the Rockville Civic Ballet will present an original performance based on Lewis Carroll’s famous story. Tickets cost $17; $13 for children 12 and younger and seniors 60 and older.

The Rockville Chorus holds rehearsals from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Mondays from September to May in the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre Social Hall, 603 Edmonston Drive. The annual holiday and spring concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22 and Sunday, May 17, at the theater.
