Budget Work to Begin Before Year’s End

The Mayor and Council will begin work on the Fiscal Year 2021 budget in December.

A new term of the Mayor and Council is scheduled to begin with the inauguration, on Sunday, Nov. 17, of a mayor and four councilmembers, followed by their first meeting on Monday, Nov. 18. See page 1 for additional information.

The Mayor and Council are scheduled to first discuss the budget, budget process and calendar during their regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 9. The budget process gives community members multiple opportunities to provide in-person input for development of the operating budget and Capital Improvements Program for FY 2021, which begins July 1.

Public hearings and work sessions will be held during Mayor and Council meetings in March and April, on dates yet to be announced. The Mayor and Council are scheduled to adopt the FY21 budget in May.

Rockville’s Fiscal Year 2020 operating budget totals $138.9 million.
