October brings deadlines for two city programs aimed at fostering neighborliness in Rockville communities.

Applications are being accepted through Friday, Oct. 14 for Rockville’s Organizing Communities and Neighborhoods (ROC-N) Matching Grant Program, which awards neighborhood associations up to $1,000 in a matching grant for projects promoting community involvement. Projects must include one or more of the following:

  • Neighborhood outreach and organizing.
  • Social events aimed at fostering a sense of community pride.
  • Neighborhood crime prevention.
  • Neighborhood preservation.
  • The acquisition of technology or supplies that directly support an existing community program.
  • Neighborhood planning.

Qualified neighborhood organizations must provide a cash or in-kind match equal to or greater than the grant amount requested. Funding is limited. Find more information and applications at www.rockvillemd.gov/ROC-NGrant.

The Good Neighbor Award recognizes Rockville residents who are making exceptional contributions to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods through good deeds or community service. The program honors those who make a difference in the community without seeking or receiving recognition for their service. Nominees cannot be employed by the City of Rockville, must be a City of Rockville resident and must have made a significant contribution to their community during the 2016 calendar year.

Nominations should be submitted by close of business on Friday, Oct. 28. Good Neighbor Awards are scheduled to be presented at the Mayor and Council meeting on Monday, Dec. 5. For nomination forms and more information, visit www.rockvillemd.gov/goodneighbor.
