Rockville’s Climate Solutions Speaker Series Kicks Off in March
Rockville celebrates Earth Month each April but is getting started a month early with the kickoff of the new Climate Solutions Speaker Series in March, and a look at how organic lawn care can lead to a healthier environment and a healthy lawn.
The series kickoff, “How to Maintain a Healthy, Organic Lawn” at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10 features Mary Travaglini, manager of the organic lawn and landscape program for the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection. Travaglini will present practical lawn care steps you can take to reduce your carbon footprint and help protect Rockville’s environment. The subject of the series kickoff is timely, as 2022 brings new restrictions on how Rockville does lawn care. A new law that went into effect Jan. 1, applies Montgomery County’s pesticide law to the city, restricting the use of certain pesticides on private lawns, playgrounds, mulched recreation areas and child care facilities, and prohibits most synthetic pesticides.
