Public outreach will begin this fall on an update to the zoning ordinance. Public outreach meetings will be held to present the zoning diagnostic report and calibration tables for the project. Among recommendations outlined in the report is an emphasis on the need for a streamlined development review process and clearer, more understandable language in the zoning ordinance.
New development and design standards will be necessary to promote housing variety while maintaining compatibility with existing neighborhoods. The report also proposes new standards for open spaces, neighborhood amenities and specific “community nodes.”
The Rockville 2040 Comprehensive Plan recommends a significant focus on development around high-capacity transit stations and re-considered minimums for parking in these areas. The zoning ordinance rewrite will implement changes to the zoning map as recommended in the Rockville 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
