Farmers Market to Collect Food for Rockville Seniors

Visitors to the City of Rockville Farmers Market on Saturday, June 20 will have an opportunity to help neighbors in need.

The market will be collecting shelf-stable items to donate to the Rockville Senior Center’s ongoing food drive for senior members of the Rockville community. Needed items are: cereal, oatmeal, pasta, sauce, soups, canned vegetables, canned fruits and applesauce.

Shoppers can drop the items off as they enter market in the jury parking lot at East Jefferson (Route 28) and Monroe streets in Rockville Town Center. Market hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

During the COVID-19 emergency, the Rockville Farmers Market is following state guidance with rules and regulations, and a preordering program, to provide for quicker, safer shopping.

A drive-up and drop-off drive to collect food and personal essentials for seniors continues at the Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Drive, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday. Senior center staff unload items without donors having to leave their cars. Requested items include pasta, sauce, vegetables, tuna, soup, cereal, oatmeal, rice, beans, cereal bars, granola bars and snacks; and small-size personal care items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, lotion, toilet paper and homemade masks.

Can’t make it to the Rockville Senior Center’s Tuesday and Wednesday drives? Donations can also be dropped in the large blue bin at the side of the center, 9 a.m.-noon, Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
