Fresh Produce Returns with Farmers Market Opening

Rockville’s Farmers Market returns Saturday, May 12 to give shoppers their pick of farm-fresh produce and more from regional grower/producers.

This year’s market will include vendors offering fruits and vegetables, plants and flowers, herbs, baked goods, local wine and spirits, knife sharpening, meat and coffee.

New vendors will offer fresh cheeses, mushrooms from the Eastern Shore, beeswax candles, soaps, empanadas, herbs, flowers and other locally grown fruits and vegetables.

The market will be open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays, through Nov. 17 in the jury parking lot at East Jefferson (Route 28) and Monroe streets in Rockville Town Center.

The market participates in the Maryland Market Money Program. The program helps provide greater access to fresh fruits and vegetables for customers using the Farmers Market Nutrition Program; the Women, Infants, and Children Fruit and Vegetable Check Program; and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps). Participants’ benefits are matched up to $5 each week, while funds are available. Organizations or individuals wishing to contribute to the Maryland Market Money program should email [email protected].

Visit www.rockvillemd.gov/farmers for more information, including a list of participating vendors, approximate harvest dates for select fruits and vegetables, and a photo gallery. For more information, call 240-314-8620.
