Gear Up for Bike to Work Day

Not only is riding a bike a cheaper, more environmentally friendly alternative to your daily commute, it’s healthier and fun. Switch up your gas pedal for bicycle pedals on Bike to Work Day, from 6:30-9 a.m., Friday, May 20. Or you could make it a monthlong celebration of Bike Month — see the listings on this page.

For Bike to Work Day, the city will host pit stops in Rockville Town Square and Fallsgrove. More information and an interactive map of the locations can be found at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org.

Rockville’s YouTube channel has a series of safety tips for bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists. Navigate to www.youtube.com/cityofrockville and search for “safety tips.”

Learn more about Bike to Work Day, Bike Month in May and bicycling and pedestrian safety at www.rockvillemd.gov/bicycling and www.rockvillemd.gov/pedestriansafety.

[For all Bike Month events, please make sure to be safe out on Rockville’s roads, and remember to bring your helmet. State law in Maryland requires bicycles riders 16 and younger to wear helmets. In Montgomery County, riders 18 and younger must wear helmets.

See the state of Maryland’s website on bicycle helmet safety to find out more about the law, and fitting your helmet properly.]
