Go Green in May

Learn about RainScapes Rewards and other city programs designed to help you green your backyard and reduce pollution in a free information session from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12 at Croydon Creek Nature Center, 852 Avery Road.

Single-family homeowners and nonprofits, including religious institutions, private schools and homeowners associations, can receive up to $3,500 in rebates through Rockville’s RainScapes Rewards program. The program offers rebates for planting trees and conservation landscaping, installing rain barrels or removing pavement – actions that can reduce flooding, decrease pollution in local streams and attract birds and butterflies. To register, call 240-314-8870 or email [email protected] with your name, phone number and address. Learn more at www.rockvillemd.gov/rainscapes.

Croydon Creek Nature Center will also host an invasive plant pull from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 6. Work with a regional expert to pull invasive plants. Gloves will be provided. No registration necessary. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Call 240-314-8770 for details.

And there’s another way to get green, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at the Montgomery County Greenfest, at Jesup Blair Local Park, 900 Jesup Blair Drive, Silver Spring. The free, family-friendly festival is dedicated to celebrating the people and environment of Montgomery County. Visit montgomerycountygreenfest.org to learn more.
