Great Returns from Rockville’s Gun Buyback

The Rockville City Police Department, in partnership with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, collected 270 firearms during the department’s third annual gun buyback on Aug. 17 at RedGate Park. The event provided an opportunity to dispose of unwanted firearms voluntarily, anonymously and safely.

Participants turned in handguns, rifles, shotguns, assault weapons and ghost guns in exchange for gift cards. Rockville has had great success with this annual event, with 200 to 300 firearms turned in each year. Every gun turned in is one less gun that could be used in a serious crime, suicide or domestic violence incident, or accidentally discharged by a child.
